Society Contacts

The Allora and District Historical Society Inc. Was first formed in 1969 at the Centenary of Allora township being proclaimed a Municipality. The main object of the Society is to preserve the history of the township for later generations.

The Allora and District Historical Society meets in the old Shire Hall each third Wednesday of the month, at 7.30 p.m. And visitor's are made very welcome. We are desperately short of members, and invite anybody with an interest in the history of Allora and surrounds to join us. At the AGM on 22/7/2009, Colin Newport was re-elected as President, Graham Anderson as Vice President & Jean Newport as 2nd. Vice President.  Carolyn Anderson became Hon.Secretary and Pat Lawson was returned as Hon.Treasurer. Fees are only $5.00 per year. You can actively participate in helping the ladies with street stalls and raffles, open the Drayton Street Museum on a Sunday once a month, attend the meetings and voice your opinions. Or finally just join and stay at home and do nothing. But you can still proudly say you are a member of the Society. Please join us as none of us are getting any younger and we need to preserve the past for our youngsters.

Museum Hours

The Museum at 27 Drayton Street is open every Sunday from 1.30 PM to 4PM. If by chance it is closed, the member will be at the other Museum (Cnr Forde and Warwick Street's) The old Shire Office building.

The Museum on the Corner of Forde and Warwick Street's is opened by request for research only. Under the present administration the museum is similar to a St. Vinnie's warehouse and no longer a workable museum, (with apologies to St. Vinnie's).
